I believe that strong public education is the foundation of our democratic society. I am passionate about assisting school leaders with creating a culture of collaboration within their educational enterprises resulting in a learning organization which focuses on effective instructional strategies and high student achievement.
Through participatory leadership—engaging teachers, principals, students, parents, school board members, and the community at large—will come innovative ideas in providing quality opportunities for high quality teaching and learning. I am inspired when I see school leadership move from maintaining the status quo and crisis management to instructional leadership. This is where I see the focus and operational strategies address high expectations, standards, best practices, assessments and high student achievement.
This is why I joined EdFOCUS Initiative upon my retirement as superintendent from the Hudson City School District, Hudson, Ohio. The commitment of EdFOCUS to assist school districts, school buildings, and school classrooms in developing their capacity to enrich the best instructional practices to improve student achievement is the engine that drives my hopes and dreams in strengthening public education and our democratic society.
